Meet the top shelf of saffron. Super Negin means only the longest, reddest threads make the cut, with no yellow filler. It's grown on the sun-scorched high plains of Herat, Afghanistan, where brutal summers and frosty winters toughen up the crocus into something seriously flavorful. Every fall, the flowers are hand-picked at sunrise before they wilt. Then someone patiently plucks out three tiny crimson threads per bloom. Yes, by hand. Yes, thousands of flowers. The reward is honeyed, floral magic that turns anything golden. Bloom a pinch in warm water and let it loose on rice, paella, stews, or desserts.
